Five Hour Energy Informative - Did not give me any energy

Review by Skye on 2010-07-22
So I decided to try the 5 Hour Energy drinks, they constantly advertise. Who doesn't get that afternoon slumpy feeling, regardless, if you are working outside the home or at home?

I bought it from King Soopers. I tried the regular and the extra strength, and seriously, nothing happened. I did not feel any sort of energy boost. I felt exactly the same, as I previously did, before trying it. At first I wasn't sure what might happen, so I only drank half the bottle, as the directions said. I waited about an hour, and felt nothing, so I finished it off, and still nothing. A few days after that, I decided to drink the extra strength bottle. Again, waited, and did not have any energy boost or kick what so ever. I guess the only positive thing I can say, was it was pleasant tasting, sort of like a berry smoothie.

I find they work really well mixed with vodka.

Skye do you drink a lot of coffee? Have a high tolerance for sugar and caffiene?

I have a very low tolerance for both. A Big Gulp or a cup of coffee makes me walk on the ceiling.

Most of those energy drinks are a gimmick. They jack them up with tons of sugar that's what supposed to give you energy.

I tried a Red bull before nasty stuff

No kish, I never drink coffee. I do not eat a lot of sugary products, and only drink sugar free drinks. This stuff says its caffiene free, and that's why I bought it.

Aha, goduke, that's the ticket, vodka :)

How are they a gimmick? They work for some people.
Caffeine and sugar will give almost anyone a boost.

The funny thing is wally, this stuff supposedly has only natural ingredients, without anything artificial. Red Bull tastes like cough syrup, yuck!

I am curious then what would be the active ingredient(s)? Did it say or shall I Google?

5 Hour Energy does not have any sugars, in fact, I'm pretty sure all I got for my 10 bucks were two 4oz bottles of berry smoothie, lol.

Kisha, probably B vitamins.
Posted by Skye on 2010-07-22:
Sorry kish, I don't have the bottles anymore. It was mostly fruit, and not sure what else.

I would love to know if this drink actually worked for anyone. Like I said, I bought it, due to the fact it only has natural things in it...

It does have caffiene in it.

I went to the website to let them know how it did nothing for me, and the site wants way way too much personal information. Not worth it to me. Live and learn.

Posted by Skye on 2010-07-22:
Thanks kish. I could swear my bottles said caffiene free. But I can't back that up, cause I threw them out.

I use the CVS brand of the product ("Fuel"). It doesn't really give me energy, but if I'm tired it kind of takes the edge of the tiredness. It's a bit of caffeine and a bit hit of different B vitamins.

They have a new lemon lime flavor. Tastes like one of the lime popsicles you got as a kid. And mixes well with vodka.

goduke, ya gonna make me have to make a vodka run! And my drinking days are long gone. Maybe wine once in awhile, but my husband is allergic to alcohol, so I don't want to party alone :)

One of my co-workers drank that Red Bull every morning. I think it made her cranky, and to me, it smells like cough syrup. I never drank it. I can be cranky without the help of a product!

I too was disappoined with this 5-hour energy product. It did absolutely nothing for me. Now I have found ritalin to be an excellent pick-me-up although strattera not so much.
Posted by Skye on 2010-07-22:
Thanks Stew, now at least I know it did not work for you. Never had ritalin. I think the energy that little kids have is a waste, and as adults, we should have that non-stop energy.

My hubby drinks these. He gets a lot of energy from them. If it has B vitamins that would be the case as he is B12 deficient.

Have you tried just a simple cup of coffee? I don't know if you like coffee, but at least it's natural and has yet to be found harmful. And you're in control of the sugar or whatever else you like to put in. The best part is that it's basically cheap compared to all the energy drinks out there.

I don't like coffee Venice. Never was a fan. I just was looking for an energy boost, and did not get one.

I figured you didn't like coffee, or you'd already be drinking it. My son loves energy drinks, but I don't think he has tried this one. I have a feeling it would do nothing for him either. I'll let him know what happened to you so he doesn't waste his money.

lol here is a brand of energy drink that might give ya energy sky.

I kid you not the drink is called Cocaine

I, too, dont like coffee, but I do drink it in the morning since its readily available in the office and it does perk me up. Every time I go to work in the morning I feel tired and sleepy and a cup coffee can defintely wake up your morning.
Posted by goduke on 2010-07-22:
coffee mixes well with vodka as well.
Posted by clutzycook on 2010-07-22:
I'm a Red Bull drinker. It doesn't necessarily wake me up so much as just improves my overall concentration.

I can't start the day without my Diet Coke. It gets me going.

goduke, Does Diet Coke mix well with vodka?
Posted by jktshff1 on 2010-07-22:
I'll handle this goduke
Stew...only when you have no bloody mary or screwdriver mix or nothing else to mix it with.

Taking a "Green Tea Diet" capsule (made by several manufacturers) can give you an energy boost as well...the Green Tea Diet capsules cost about $7-$8 for a bottle of 90, and contain about 200 mgs. of caffeine per capsule-about the same amount as in one of those 5 Hour Energy drinks.
