Ashley Furniture Complaint - Making Concrete Table Top Cancelled without notice
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE -- I was contracted by a contractor working for Ashley Furniture. I was to build a 10 ft by 6 ft Conference Table Top. It was to be concrete at 1 1/2 inches thick and the color black. I built the top and had to cut it in 3 pieces to handle it. Each piece weighed 420 lbs. Corners rounded and sides tapered. During the process of polishing and pasting which is what is done to concrete tops, I'm called and rushed saying that Ashley furniture heads have a meeting coming up and want the top done. They were suppose to have built a base for it. I told the contractor that I would try. I told the contractor it would be ready. We agreed he would send a crew to assist handling the heavy pieces Tuesday Morning. I worked long hours Saturday, Sunday touching it up. Monday morning I get a text displaying a copy of an email sent to him by Ashley furniture cancelling the table top saying that"they were forced to go in another direction. So here I am with over 1200 lbs of concrete table top with nothing to do with. I had heard during this same week that Ashley Furniture was not paying their media bills and had been laying people off. Another roomer even mentioned bankruptcy. I asked the contractor and he said oh thats some other stores. I had already built it anyway. I had tried to contact Ashley about this. Like any other store of its type, having access to the decision makers is not doable. I'm getting ready to take photos and put it on craigslist in the Memphis area. Look for it around August 1st.
