Home Depot Complaint - Kitchen counter tops
MARANA, ARIZONA -- We went to the Marana Home Depot to look at granite counter tops. We spoke with the sales person about prices, installation, etc. He showed us a display with exactly what we wanted. The order was placed and a time for measurement and installation was scheduled. When the counter tops were installed we noticed that they didn't look exactly like what we saw in the store. The thickness was 1-1/8" thick which looked thinner that the display at the store. We went to the store and measured the thickness of the counter top in the display. Sure enough it was 1-5/8" thick. What was installed looked much cheaper that what we were shown in store. After we spoke with various employees of Home Deport about this problem they determined that yes the display was different than what was installed but it was, of course, our fault not reading the fine print in the contract. After four months of telephone calls, meetings with supervisors, district managers, and department managers they agreed that they were in fact wrong and offered us first a $30 bottle of granite cleaner and then a $100 check to cover our disappointment. We declined the cleaner and never went back to the store to pick up the check. Now we shop only at Lowes and have told Home Depot that we will never step foot into one of their stores again. FYI, we have spent $4000 to $7500 per year at Home Depot for the past 20 years. Lesson learned is that we should have had them remove the counter top, given us our money back, and made the purchase somewhere else.
