Christensen Automotive Informative - Be careful of unneeded repairs

Review by washoe on 2010-08-09
CARSON CITY -- I was having lack of power in my Isuzu Rodeo and took it to the Carson City location.

I thought it might be a catalytic converter. I had one replaced (it has 2) 2 years prior to this.

They came back with an estimate for approximately $1200. Both converters (including the one I recently had replaced) and a new muffler needed to be replaced. I called a couple of other shops and received quotes quite a bit lower for the same work. I decided to get a second opinion and took it to Performance Automotive. They found I only needed to replace the 2nd converter and they charged me $470 to do it-a far cry from what Christensen was attempting to do. They also made a checklist of repairs I should make in the future at no cost to me- Christensen did a similar diagnostic and charged me $100.

Be wary of Christensen - I'm sure they do decent work, but you may be paying for more than you need.

A very smart move on your part to get a second opinion! As an added bonus, you now have a shop you can trust.
