Perfect Press Cleaners Complaint - Horrible Dry Cleaners Horrible Service

MANTUA, NEW JERSEY -- My husband and I went to a dry cleaners in the same shopping complex my son gets his haircut. This was the first time we went there and the last! I dropped off my husbands pair of dockers and 2 shirts which were all new. The owner of the store who was very obnoxious from the get go said we can pick them up in a week. We told him that would be fine. When we went back to pick up our dry cleaning we noticed the shirts which were black were ruined with white dots all over them and the pair of pants were missing. He said would take care of the shirts and reclean them again and that the pants were probably at one of his other stores. Well a week goes by and I call the owner and he states still working on finding the pants and the shirts he needs a little more time on. My husband went there 2 weeks later and asked for the pants again and he took my husband in the back and couldn't find them in the mean time my husband then stated where are my shirts. He showed him the shirts and they were ruined! My husband asked nicely for his money back for the dry cleaning and the cost of the shirts and pants whic was $140 for the cloths and 10 for the dry cleaning. The owner refused said give him more time. We went in there several more times and phone calls over the next yr. And still nothing. Now my husband went back in there on July 22, 2010 and the owner acted like he didn't know what my husband was talking about when asking about the pants and shirts. He stated whats the size of the shirts and pants and description and give me your number and I will look and call you back. Well till this date August 12, 2010 we still have not heard from him at all. I wouldn't recommend this dry cleaners to anyone I found out from other store owners and customers this guy is no good and looses a lot of peoples cloths and trys to get out of doing the right thing and apoligizing and giving people there money back for the cloths and the so called dry cleaning

Well, that just stinks. You should probably send them a certified, registered demand letter for the $140, giving them 10 days from the date of receipt to cough up the cash. Set forth the facts in a time sequence...on date A, this happened...on date B, this happened.

If you don't hear from them (and you probably won't, but you need the proof), go immediately to the NJ Attorney General's office, Division of Consumer Affairs. File with them and see what happens.

What does the back of the receipt say, they will pay up to for lost clothing? Most of the time it caps off at $100.00. Take them to small claims court. You said the clothing was brand new, so take take your store clothing receipts, present them to the judge, and you may just win full value for what is missing. They are brand new, so not much depreciation at all in the value. Good luck.

Sounds like they were giving you a run around since day one. You waited a year? I would have been on top of them every other day until I got my clothing or money. Sounds like they lost and ruined your clothing and didn't want to compensate you.

To a certain extent, I agree with the other posts. The difficulty is waiting a full year. Dropping the ball like this, for this length of time, is almost the equivalent of abandoning the items. My guess is this is exactly what the store owner would state and I would further bet that there is a contract on the back of the claim ticket stating something similar.

The interesting thing is that the language about the limitation on liability is not given to the customer until after the customer has given the company the clothes. I'd make a pretty strong argument that they can't limit the liability after the contract is made (i.e., I gave them my clothes). Could be a fun day in front of Judge Judy.
