Luna's House, Inc. Compliment - A Great Adoptive Center for Cats
ABINGDON, MARYLAND -- As most of you know we lost our little Ramses a few weeks ago, suddenly.
My husband and I talked it over and decided to get a little kitten.
I looked at a lot of animal rescues online and found Luna's House. It is an organization that takes in and fosters kittens and cats until they can find a 'forever home'.
They showcase their kitties at local PetSmarts. They rotate them around so that all can get a chance to be seen.
They do make you fill out an adoption request and charge a fee (between $75.00 to $125.00) to help defray the care of the kittens/cats.
We went in on Saturday to 'just look'. We were shown into a small showing room off of the Kittie Kennels and the kittens were all let into the room.
So many sweet kitties! All looked very well taken care of and all of them were so rambunctious!
We had one that stood out, though. He came over, jumped up on my husband, Dan's, lap and started purring the loudest purr I have ever heard!
Then he jumped on me and tackled my pants leg. It was the cutest thing ^_^
I asked his name, medical info, and how he was found.
He was named 'Leon', was 3 months old, had all his shots but Rabies (too young), was miro chiped and the only things that had been wrong with him was he had broken all his wiskers off rubbing against the cages. He was found at a few days old in a box on Father's Day (yes, one of the hottest days in MD this year) almost dead.
Well, we wanted him.
The lady said that we would have to wait until Dee came in to do the interview (Dee would be in after noon) and to fill out an adoption form to get started.
She warned us that this process could take a few days, as they do check all references and that they could not really hold Leon if someone else was OKed to adopt him first.
I said that was fine, that I understood. That as long as the kitties got good homes that was fine with me.
When she asked me who my Vet was, I told her Chadwell and she said that was the vet that they used.
We filled everything out and said that we would be back around 1pm to see if Dee could see us then.
When we came back in. Dee was assisting another couple with their adoption, but ask if we could please wait. That she really wanted to speak with us (now I was nervous!).
When Dee could see us she asked if we wanted to take Leon home today. I just stared at her for a second and said, "YES!"
Dee explained that she called Chadwell and got a REALLY glowing report from them and that we were ideal for adoption ^_^
She when though everything with us about owning, introducing and raising a kitten.
When it came time to pay, I asked if they took Credit Cards (we weren't expecting to adopt today) and she said they didn't. But they would hold a check until next week if that could help. It did and I had Dan run to the car for a checkbook.
They gave us a beautiful kitten (a little black puffball), free litter and free kitten chow.
The even let us borrow a cat carrier because we didn't own one as I leash train my cats (we were willing to buy one, but they said not necessary).
Dee even gave me her cell number to call if there were any problems or questions.
She also said that if Leon started sneezing (URIs are common when you get a cat from a shelter or where cats are held together)in the next 2 weeks to let her know and that she would bring over some antibotics for him.
Leon (now called Leo) has been a wonderful addition to our family (though, our queen, Selina is having a 'hissy fit' about it >_<).
If anyone is in the tri-state area and wishes to adopt a kitten or cat, please try Luna's House.
