Spirit Airlines Complaint - Spirit Airlines - Simply Pathetic
MIRAMAR, FLORIDA -- I just flew on Spirit Airlines for the first time, arriving yesterday. This was by far the worst flight I have ever taken, and I have flown on Continental, Delta, American, Taca, LAN, Taca, Copa, and more. First, if I wanted to choose my seat for online check-in, I would have had to pay to select it. Of course, I had to pay $36 to check in one bag, and luckily I only had a personal bag, or I would've been paying for my carry on, too. At the gate, everyone was searched and all water bottles were taken away, so if I wanted water on my 5 hour flight, I would've had to pay $3. I was already angry before I'd even boarded the plane.
Once I got on the plane, it only got worse. Not only were the seats of lower quality than many of the public buses I'd rode on in South America, but my seat was broken and would not go back at all, nor did the seat next to me or in front of me. I think they were all broken. The pocket in front of me was also broken, with the metal bent out to poke me in the knees during the entire flight. There was no screen on the back of the seat in front of me, there was not even a drop down screen because there was absolutely no entertainment besides the inflight magazine. There was not even an outlet for music. I didn't know airplanes like this still existed. Not only was this the lowest quality airplane I'd ever flown on in my life, but when I got to my destination, I realized that they had lost my luggage. Now, 30 hours after landing, I'm still waiting for them to deliver my luggage, which I had to pay to check in.
Had I checked in two pieces of luggage and brought a carry-on, plus wanted to eat a meal and have a drink, the flight fees would have cost me well over $100. I truly felt like I'd been scammed and talking to the other passengers I found I was not alone. Even the crew joked about charging to use the bathroom. Maybe we'll see that in their next policy update. Flying on a plane where everyone is angry and the plane itself is outdated and falling apart is not only uncomfortable, it is downright frightening. This airline should be shut down. Will I ever get my luggage?
