Lowe's Complaint - Credit Scam
BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS -- My fiance and I received a bill from Lowe's last year, that was in accurate. All though we did have a balance with them at the time, (which we paid off monthly, at the end of each month we ALWAYS had a zero balnace,) they had charged us about $200 too much. My fiance went into Lowe's, and he would meet with a customer service lady, who would take our billing statements, and kept telling us that it was, "Quite a process to deal with mistakes on the bill, but that she agreed with us about the mistake, and was working it out." she told us to be patient. One day, when my fiance went in to meet with her again, he found out she had been arrested at the store for shop lifting! Thats not even the worst part! She wasn't really doing anything with out billing statements, she had never tried to help. Then the calls began coming, both from Lowe's credit department, and the actual credit company they use. We had to explain our situation to about 50 different people. Lowe's would tell us not to make a payment on our credit card, until they had dealt with the bill mishap. However, they were charging us interest on the balance, and late fees every month. My fiance literally spoke to different people, probably 100 times over the past year, all of whom knew nothing about our situation, every time. He would call and say "I want to speak to MR. LOWES! who is the head guy? who is the highest person i can speak with?" In the mean time, each business, (Lowes' and the credit card company they use,) were telling us different stories. When we went to buy a house, this showed up on our credit. The bank manager recommended that we settle with the company. We just paid $1600 to them, and it will still be on our credit forever, although it has been settled so it won't hurt our credit. But there will be a blemsih forever. We have always paid off all our bills monthly, but it didn't matter. There was no way to prove that the bill was wrong to begin with now, it has been too long. Our bank friend told us, this is a scam that they do. They know in the end it will be easier for the customer to just pay, meanwhile late fees and interest pile up. So we paid $1600 over a $200 problem. I guess well chalk it up to a lesson learned. But we will NEVER set foot in Lowe's again, and that commercial where they put their hands on their hearts and promise good service--is a bunch of crap!
