Kroger Personal Finance Complaint - 0% from Kroger is a rip-off

Review by rita f on 2010-08-20
I did a balance transfer with Kroger. They had sent me a 0% interest rate. They were clear that there would be a 4% balance transfer fee. However when I got my statements, I was continually charged a $2.00 fee. After trying repeatedly to get alive person on the phone, I was told that I in fact was now subjected to a 7% interest rate because I had not paid the balance transfer fee of in full with the first statement I received. I was never told that I needed to pay that fee in full. I am basically being charged interest on interest.

The person I spoke to was very condescending and acted like I was stupid for not knowing this interest on a fee existed. I will be transferring this balance as soon as I can and closing the account. NEVER use Kroger Personal Finance. They are rip-off artists.

Read through your cardholder agreement carefully to be sure that you are, in fact, in the right. If the agreement doesn't say anything about paying the fee in full with your first payment, then you have a reason to complain. Otherwise, it's a good lesson in making sure to read all the fine print before signing up for a credit card with an offer that seems too good to be true.
