Raceway Auto Sales Complaint - Beware Of This Place, This Guy Is Up To No Good!

Review by 131419 on 2010-08-24
CONWAY, SOUTH CAROLINA -- My partner was recently looking for a car. We looked on Craigslist and came across a nice Volkswagon Jetta 2.0 Turbo. The guy said on the ad that it runs great. I emailed him, and asked him what the pros and cons of the car were, he said the interior was a little worn, but other than that, the car runs great! So we decide to drive up and take a look at the car. We were given the keys, started it up, and take it for a test drive. But it wouldn't move. I put it in drive and hit the gas, not even the engine would rev. Thinking I did something wrong, I shut it off and went back into the dealership. The guy came back out, and then tried to crank the car. After several attempts to try to start the car, it finally started with a loud pop, and then it was running extremely poor.

I said to him, "I thought you said it ran great" he just looked down and said "Thats why I'm listing the price so low" At this point, we just turned around and left. I don't know what this guy is trying to pull on people, but I would not go back there again!

You should be thankful you took the time to go and look at it, rather than purchase it sight unseen.

Oh me too. Im pretty automotive salvy and know what to look for when purchasing a used vehicle, but to flat-out lie and say the car runs great when it in fact, doesnt run at all? unbelievable.

The car in fact did run, it just didn't move. The guy was just doing his job trying to sell a car. You did your job as a consumer and left. Win win.

That car probably had a bad clutch or transmission, which is why it wouldn't move when put in gear.

Fair complaint. Did he think you wouldn't notice the car doesn't move?

Hopefully you'll find a Volvo in excellent condition! Try one straight from the Volvo sales lot. You'd be surprised. If you need credit or better credit than start out slow with a co-buyer. If at all a possibility, go for the new! Warranty, Gap Insurance, etc. Or check out the Toyota Yaris. Very reliable cars and affordable. Good luck!
