Jeldwen Complaint - Jeldwen French Slider Patio Door
I bought a Jeldwen slider patio door with a french rail (thick trim) from Lowe's special order. Elected not to buy the one that was half the price on the floor to get the french rail look and quality. (paid $1000) I mistakenly believed that Jedlwen was a quality product. The door finally arrived (no one ever seemed to know where exactly it was in transit or where it was coming from). The door arrived with the handle pre-installed. The screws on the handle that you can see were stripped. The screws inside of the door to the handle were also stripped and not screwed in properly. But that was the least of the issue. The door when shut made a loud clunking noise and sounded as if part of the door were falling apart inside. My contractor followed all manufacturers specs for installation and made all adjustments. I contacted Lowes and they promptly got Jedlwen customer service to call me and make an appointment. Their customer service determined over the telephone from my description that this must be a "roller issue". The customer service representative arrived at my home and immediately said there was no way that this was a roller issue. Apparently a screw inside the door had not been properly installed, which was allegedly causing the clunking noise. The representative said he installed the screw that was missing. I then operated the door again and it still makes a loud clunking sound when you shut it, with a very slightly less detectable noise that sounds like the whole door is falling apart on the inside when you shut it. When I questioned the representative he said that is just the way they are. This is the biggest piece of crap I have ever purchased and will never buy another Jeldwen product again. Luckily, we have not replaced all of our windows yet so I know what product NOT to buy.
