Long John Silver's Restaurants Informative - Lobster tails.....NOT, actually tiny shrimp!!!!! - Lobster tails

Review by miraclemant on 2010-08-30
I was very curious about Long John Silver's Lobster Tails at only $3.99. actually the taste was good, but my curiosity got the better of me, so I took the bread coating off of several of them, and low and behold what I found was actually very small shrimp!!!!!!!

How can this company advertise this as "Lobster"? it is NOT ! ! !

I hope some government agency shuts this fraud down, but then when EVER did a government agency do it's job??

Is it actually langostino?
Posted by Wally86 on 2010-08-30:
langostino isn’t even a Lobster. Many restaurants use this as imitation Lobster meat.

Wally, yes it is. It's squat lobster.

Langostino is a Spanish word with different meanings in different areas. In America, it is commonly used in the restaurant trade to refer to the meat of the squat lobster, which is neither a true lobster nor a prawn. It is more closely related to porcelain crabs and hermit crabs. Crustaceans labeled as langostino are no more than 3 inches (7.6 cm) long, and weigh no more than 7 ounces (200 g) [1]. Langostinos are not langoustes (spiny lobsters) despite a similar name (in Spanish, lobster is called langosta). Also, langostinos are sometimes confused with langoustines (Norway lobster), which is a true lobster common in European cuisine

I never heard of langostino until I heard it on Hells Kitchen. I wonder if the OP brought their findings to management?

I'm just saying its not real lobster that's all they are misleading the consumer by saying it is. They were even sued for it

$3.99 = not a Maine lobster tail, that's for sure.
Posted by FlShopper on 2010-08-30:
Yeah, the price should've been the tip-off.

Still C2O, I take it you have experience?

I've never eaten cheap tail, Dryad. I see no reason too.
