Comcast Corporation Complaint - Comcast - Complete Incompetence
NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS -- I have been with Comcast cable for a number of years. I have been paying my Comcast bill via their auto-pay as a direct debit from my checking account for years.
Summary of complete incompetence:
If you change auto-payment options you have to manually pay your bill until the new auto-pay option takes effect and you are never told or informed of that fact. To the contrary, all of the information you recieve indicates auto-pay is continuing under 1 form or another. Weird!
Detail of Comcast complete incompetence:
On 12/30/04 I accessed the Comcast on-line web page and switched my auto-pay from direct checking debit auto-pay to a recurring credit card auto-pay. The web site stated it can take up to 30 days to establish the new auto-pay method.
Please note: There was no mention or indication that this cancelled my previous auto-pay method effective immediately and that I would need to make manual payments on my account until the new auto-payment method took effect.
I assumed (based on my experience with multiple other companies where I had switched auto-pay methods) that there would be no issue, auto-pay would continue and I would not have to manually make a payment. Ha! Ha! Ha!
The first Comcast statement I received in the mail after switching auto-pay methods stated: "Auto Bank Payment will be made on '01/12/05'".
Things seemed fine until I checked on-line web on 01/25/05. No payment had occurred and the on-line statement indicated the account was past due and a late fee would be accessed. The on-line web DID indicate that the account had been set up to make auto payments however. I quote: "Your Payment Method: Recurring Credit/Debit Card".
I immediately contacted Comcast and spoke to 2 seperate reps related to auto-pay billing. Both stated the account had been set up for auto-pay. The reps continually inferred that it was my problem because I had set up an auto pay option and it it takes 30 days for it to kick in. Again, they seemed unable to comprehend that I had changed auto-pay options and there had been no indication I had to make a manual payment. Both assured me that auto-pay was now established for the next payment. I then made a credit card payment for the past due balance.
I then recieved my next statement from Comcast on or about Feb 1. It stated: "Auto debit payment will be made on '02/16/05'". Hmmm... was I too fall for it again??? I checked on-line web again it it still stated "Your Payment Method: Recurring Credit/Debit Card".
I guess you know the rest.
Auto payment did not occur on the 2/16/05. On 02/17/05 I checked on-line web system and there was no indication of payment. I checked my credit card and again no indication of payment.
I contacted Comcast and they stated it will occur next month. What????????
All of the information I have recieved indicates auto-pay is in effect and has been in effect all along. Their systems do not indicate whether or not payments have occurred. Their on-line system does not indicate there is a pending payment which has not yet posted. The web site is a complete joke. Their service people were not helpful and could only mimic "It takes 30 days for..." There were the standard apologies... a complete waste of time and breath.
Time to check into WOW. I have wasted way too much time on Comcast...
