Hotwire, Inc Complaint - Deceptive Advertising
This is my second unpleasant experience with Hotwire. My first involved a deceptive star rating (how you choose the hotel). The advertised it as a three star and it was a no-star. I put that down to "Buyer Beware." If it looks like a great deal then chances are there's a problem. However I have counted on the location to be honest and was disappointed to find they falsely advertise that as well. I called immediately to cancel the booking and was told two things I did not find in their terms:
1) There's a map that most people don't click on (relying on the location / town to be accurate) and if they hotel is in the "green zone," then that's all they are obligated to verify.
2) There is a "distance" noted and that isn't road distance. That is "as the crow flies" - which isn't quite what people think of when they see distance.
As you've see with other complaints about this vendor they have virtually no cancellation policy but there do have some obligation to advertise truthfully. I encourage anyone who has had similar experiences to contact any authority who can bring some pressure to bear on these thieves.
