Fashion Bug Complaint - Quality of Merchandise Has Gone Down

Complaint
Review by little_yaya on 2010-09-07
ARIZONA -- Fashion Bug is one of my favorite stores. They have cute, work appropriate clothes at reasonable prices.
But lately, I've noticed that the shirts I've bought in the past few months get little holes in them after I've washed them. My shirts from other stores don't get these holes, so I know it's not my washing machine.
Nobody wants to buy a shirt that they can only wear a few times.
I've also noticed that their shoes seem more cheaply made and fall apart easily.
I love the clothes at Fashion Bug, but I think I'm going to have to stop shopping there if the quality doesn't improve. Kohls and JCPenny are a little more expensive, but their clothes don't fall apart on me. I do plan on contacting Fashion Bug via a letter or email.

What is your washer set on?
Your dryer as well?

I don't usually dry my work shirts in the dryer and I wash my clothes on delicate. The shirts I buy from other stores don't have the same holes in them. I doubt it's my washing machine. Nobody else in my house has holes in their shirts either.

I've never shopped at Fashion Bug but do know many of these places carry "seconds" which they don't bother to mention. Flaws not obvious to the eye unless one does a complete inspection. Run them through the washer (even at the gentle cycle) and dryer and presto that hole in the sleeve will come up and slap you in the face. That's money thrown away even if one got a good price.

I used to shop at Fashion Bug when I lived in New York, and they always had really nice things. Sorry your shirts are coming out with little holes little. Maybe you could contact the manufacturer. Until then, I would suggest washing them in Woolight. I know it's a hassle, but at least it may spare your shirts from a premature, untimely death :)

These sounds like the cheap clothes my daughter used to buy when she was a teenager. They were either sewn together wrong or made of crappy material that would last only a few washings. But they were actually inexpensive and she really didn't care.

I like the quality of clothes from Kohl's and Macy's. If you shop the sales/coupons, it can be quite a bargain because the clothes hold up well. And if something does happen, they are very accommodating with returns.

I'm not familiar with Fashion Bug or its return policy. Can you return these shirts? The material sounds like it's defective.

I think shoe quality has gone done all over. It's hard to find reasonably priced shoes that hold up.

Hey, you got your name back! I'm glad. Name changes are confusing.

Venice, I've bought T-Shirts from some of the finest department stores and they certainly weren’t cheap by any means. Dang, I ran them through the gentle cycle in cold water but they not only faded but the side seams were no longer side seams. I quit looking at the brand after that because obviously it doesn't mean squat anymore.

I agree, Nohandle. The brand isn't always a guarantee that the quality is good. I try to buy materials that I'm familiar with. I usually can tell by the look and feel. And I'm a stickler for garments being sewn together properly. I check for that, too.

I've bought a lot of my son's clothes in Kohl's Young Men's department and the quality is a little inconsistent even within the same brand. But they take everything back with no questions asked, and I don't hesitate to return whatever I'm not satisfied with.

The shirts I have bought 3 and 4 years ago from Fashion Bug are still in good shape. The shirts I've bought recently are falling apart. And Venice I think you're right about shoe qaulity overall going down.

Go to Piper Lime on-line for shoes. Free shipping and free returns, so you can't go wrong. I just got a pair of really cute shoes sent to my home. They were on sale for $44, reduced from $85! They have good brands and my shoes always seem to last for quite some time. Cheap shoes are not only bad for your feet, but are uncomfortable, and they do fall apart fast.

As for the clothes, when I was working, although pricy, Banana Republic had great clothes that lasted forever. They do have good sales too. Just buy one nice item per pay period and pretty soon you'll have a nice wardrobe to mix and match. They have petite sizes too--that fit great. They have a good web site too.

The thing I like about Fashion Bug is that their shirts are not too long. I'm very short and I have a short torso. So there are some stores I can't shop at cause their shirts are way too long. A&F is an example of a store where their shirts are too long on me. I'll have to try BR to see if the shirts are short enough. I like Kohl's and JCPenny's petite selection. Their shirts and pants fit my small frame pretty well.

It's funny how when styles change some are pleased and others sit back screaming. My petite friends were delighted when tops became shorter. At last they could purchase something that wasn't down to their knees and they shopped the petite section. Now I find myself pulling and tugging just to find a top that comes below my waist. I'm the one screaming now.

So true, Nohandle.

Little, BR has a petite section. If the store doesn't have it, you can order a lot more on-line in the petite section. There is a lot to choose from. If it doesn't work, you can return it to the store for free.
