The MagicJack is a device connecting to your Pc for phone availability - Complaint
The price for the MagicJack is fantastic. You purchase this Jack with plug that goes into your usb. This cost $40.00 and every year after that they advertise $19.97. They do not let you know until the year expires that you have to make a prepayment of not the $l9.97 as had been broadcast all over the place, but a 5 year prepayment of $69.99. The SCAM is there is absolutely no one to speak to! No real text support! They could take your money and not give you any service. They can go out of business or change hands, etc. Who are they???
When my year of service expired I followed instruction on-line offering the l year and 5 year payment. I paid by Visa $20.91, received a confirmation ... NO SERVICE! I did this 3 times, each time I received a confirmation with NO SERVICE! They just did not process my payment!
The SCAM is they are looking for not less than the 5 year payment from everyone, and then they could go on their merry way or whatever!

I don't really think it's any type of scam. You're buying 5 years worth of phone service for under $70 so that's a tough argument just becuase they require it purchased in 5 year blocks. This is a helpful review though as it does let people know the renewal terms a lot better than the ad does.

I found nothing in their TOS that REQUIRED a 5 year block.
This alone would be sufficient to never commit to more than 1 year at a time. From their TOS:
13. Modification
magicJack reserves the right to modify or discontinue the magicJack device and Software, temporarily or permanently, with or without notice to you. YMAX reserves the right to modify or discontinue its services, temporarily or permanently, with or without notice to you. We will not be liable to you or anyone else in the event that we exercise our right to modify or discontinue the magicJack device or Software and/or YMAX services.
