Electric Service in Houston Texas - Complaint
Review by chedwards on 2010-09-08
DALLAS, TX -- I was a Direct Energy customer in Houston for over a year. A tech shows up at my house one day to say that he is changing out my meter and needs access to the back of the house I was renting. He accuses me of 'f**king with it'. My next bill is for over $600!!! in a home that is under 1800 sq feet and the bills were always under $200. I called, they said the meter was broken and they were going to back-charge me the extra amount of the months of the previous year! I didn't live in the house at that time! So in 2008, I was paying the same amount of the previous tenant from 2007! And then they made me pay it all at once. I contacted the Texas State PUC and they said I had to pay it! So I did, vowing to never use Direct Energy again; and of course spread the word to everyone I know.
Fast-forward 2 years and I searched the Texas Comptroller's Website for unclaimed property and Direct Energy OWES ME money. NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
I was right--They over-charge their customers, have faulty equipment or both. The meter-reader was at my house every month why did it take sooo long to realize the broken meter? Idiots. I pay my bills that I owe and contest the ones I don't. I contacted PUC again and they said I would have to file a new complaint. Screw it; I hope Direct Energy fails. I feel sorry for the people who work there though. It won't last long treating people this way!
