WOW gym Complaint - Shady Business Practices

Review by coffeerunguy on 2010-09-09
NORTH BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY -- I joined WOW a year ago and paid the higher intital fee so I can have the right to cancel on a month to month basis. I was temporary unemployed for a span of 2 months, so I went to the gym to directly cancel. They told me to go to their website to do it.

I sent them an email and they sent one back on instructions on how to cancel. I filled out the form, signed it, and sent it to them. They then sent an confirmation saying thee account was canceled.

5 months later when my income was steady, I decided to rejoin the gym. I saw a counsilor, and they signed me up for a new account. As the counsilor looked at the computer, I saw their face and they saw something looked amiss, but they still pushed the contract through.

I went to the gym a few days later and they told me that my new account was canceled, because my old acccount was never canceled. They have been accrueing charges for the periods that were suppose to be canceled. Very shady.

My friend is having the same problem with cancellations, but having much worse problems. They double charged her for serveral months, took her intial fee, and then canceled her contract without a refund. Beware. This company has no phone number to resolve problems. You will never speak to a person that can help you. I'm now working with my credit card company to reverse the charges along with the BBB.

I also had major problems w/WOW. You and your friend should file a complaint w/the attorney general: A few days after I filed a complaint with them, they assigned an investigator to the case and took care of the problem! Good Luck!
