Les Douceurs Du Marche Atwater Complaint - Don't believe what they tell you
MONTREAL'S ATWATER MARKET -- This is a store located at the Atwater Market in Montreal. They specialise in "fine foods" ranging from olive oil to coffee. Four months ago I went there seeking a specific brand of premixed Olive oil and Balsamic vinegar. I had tried this brand in business class on a flight to Asia. One of the owners told me he new the brand I spoke of but did not carry it as he felt it was not of good quality. He sold me on another brand that he said that had a much more superior olive oil and that the taste was exquisite. For 300ml the price was $15.00. I served it to many family and they all hated it, including myself. So off to the garbage can it went.
Last week I went back to the store looking for a particular brand of butter chicken sauce made by Patak's of the UK, a company that has been around for 50 years. The reason I wanted this particular brand was because my internet research found it had the least calories and fat versus the other 4 brands tested. Plus it was also rated the best tasting.
When I asked the clerk for the particular product, I was told that company has discontinued operating in Canada. I was offered another brand that I was told was much better. Knowing nothing about this brand and my past experience with them I declined. I went across the street to the Super C and found what I was looking for. Also it was 1/3rd less in price versus what I was offered as a alternative. Subsequent visits to Loblaw's and Metro found Patak's alive and well.
