Target Complaint - No refund for item left in cart day prior
ESCONDIDO, CALIFORNIA -- I purchased a cart-load of items for my daughter's first apartment. When I arrived at her home, I realized that I had left the large floor lamp box on the bottom of the cart.
I went to the nearest Target store w/the receipt and explained the situation. The manager there said I could only get a refund at the store of purchase.
So...today I went back to the original store, stood in the customer service line, noticed that no one seemed that interested in giving service, since no one was in front of me at the time and the people behind the counter ignored me for several minutes.
Finally, a young representative said she would help me. Which is not actually what she did. I explained the situation, showed her the receipt and asked if the item had been returned to inventory.
Her response: no refund! Once you leave the store (meaning walk out of the door), the items are no longer their responsibility. Even if an item left in a cart was obviously a mistake by a customer. I asked what happens to items that are found. She replied nonchalantly: anything-- the cart retriever can keep it, it may end up on our shelf again but no refund is offered. It's your mistake.
I am used to slightly better customer service at other stores and was taken aback by both the policy and the shrugging way it was delivered. Not even an "I'm sorry, wish I could do more."
So, I will certainly never visit that Target again. I just opened a Target account yesterday since my shopping total was over $700. But I intend to never use it, and will pay this bill and avoid shopping at this super store chain again when possible.
