Economy Car Rental Complaint - Economy Rental Car San Jose Airport - You will be sorry

COSTA RICA -- I wish I had read the reviews before I booked with Economy Rental Car at San Jose Costa Rica Airport. Not only did the car cost me fully 3 times (after they added in all the insurance) the quoted price, they took a $998 deposit from my bank account and told me that it may take them up to 30 days to refund it after I returned the car! It would seem that, having immediately taken the money (not just a pending transaction) they could refund it, but, no- they said they have to send a release to the main office and then the main office has to process it! Then, even more scary, and truly affecting my whole trip - they told me I had to sign a BLANK, UNDATED accident report. I didn't want to get stuck in San Jose by myself without transportation, so I signed it - when I asked for a copy, I was told I couldn't have one! That would seem to indicate that they know what they are doing is inappropriate, if not illegal!

I have yet to receive a refund of my $1000. My trip has been affected by this blank form floating out there, for them to use at whim. You do not want to rent from this company, EVER.

Since Costa Rico makes a good deal of money from United States tourists, drop a note describing your dissatisfaction to The Embassy of Costa Rico, 2114 S Street, NW, Washington, DC 20008 or give them a call at (202-)234-2945, 234-2946, or 234-8653. They might be interested in knowing that Economy is discouraging tourism.
