Famous Daves Complaint - Bad Food

Review by daycaredan on 2010-09-19
BAXTER, MINNESOTA -- I ordered the brisket tonight and found it was more like bottom shelf roast beef. It was terrible the beef was cooked to almost black. My corn on the cob was soggy and old my fiance got the pulled pork which was pulled pork fat. I paid top dollar for bottom shelf "beef" I will never return to the famous daves in baxter mn. It was said to have the best brisket from tx but it was trailer trash roast beef... Thanks for takin 40 of my dollars

Try getting BBQ at your local mom and pop joint.

I agree, I've been taken there a couple of times and I don't see what's the attraction. The meats are tasteless. I guess tht's why they have all the sauces. The side dishes are terrible. Where do they find that corn? The cornbread is lousy. It is just bad.

Wally, it's in MN.

Wally, I agree that a mom and pop joint would be the best choice. They have them in every state I've been to. They even have some southern bbq places in Portland, OR (and the people that own and run them are from the south). They are as good as anything I've had in the south too. Of course, I prefer my meat with a dry rub and smoked, not with the sloppy sauces. I think the op is right about that--they hide flavorless meat with that stuff. Thanks for warning everyone about this chain.

I enjoy Famous Dave's. It's not super authentic, but it is what it is. A lot of people don't have mom and pop BBQ joints near them. I know we don't near us in Jersey.

momsey, sometimes you do just have to be happy with what you've got!

Wherever we've lived, we've been able to find some nice bbq joints. I usually google and find ones that locals didn't even know about. I recently found one outside of Danbury, CT (this past summer). It was great and a nice surprise for everyone. The people we were visiting didn't even know about it!

I too was disappointed with the brisket from FD's. It was overcooked and tasteless.
Their food is average at best.
If you can't find a local joint there are some decent precooked bbq selections in the frozen food section of your favorite grocer.
I had my first taste of brisket in Texas and have yet to find anything close to what it tasted like except my own.

I love Famous Dave's and have always gotten great food. Maybe that location just isn't up to par.

Did you have the brisket, Yaya?

I always get the rib tips. My friend has gotten the brisket and pulled pork before and she really enjoyed it

It's a matter of taste but the proper way to serve a brisket is to have some 'rareness' to it. Otherwise you lose the flavor. I don't even think mine had a crust from the dry rub.
