U.S. Passport On Line Complaint - U.S. Passport On Line Cancellation Fee RIP OFF

Review by common sense customer on 2010-09-20
I needed to renew my passport within just a few week's time. I found U.S. Passport On Line (uspassportonline.com) and began the process. After realizing just how much extra money they were charging for this process, and how much paperwork and hassel it was going to be I decided to cancel my order -- only about 2 minutes after I'd placed it. They didn't have to start anything, or do anything for me -- but yet they charged me a $45 cancellation fee. Really?? What a bunch of crooks, I don't recommend them to anyone, and highly recommend that you use the U.S. Department of State website (http://travel. state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html). They are much more reasonable, and don't require all the paperwork and notarizations that U.S. Passport On Line does.

Don't mean to pile on or rub salt in the wound but this is exactly why people shouldn't use 3rd party agents. Why in thee world pay someone else extra money when the actual service provider can do it cheaper? MNSTM.

Passport companies are great if you need a bunch of different visas really quickly - the extra fees are so worth not having to mail your passport off to one embassy, waiting, getting it back and then doing the same process again and again. They can do in several days what might otherwise take weeks .

However, if you are just looking to get a new US passport and don't need any visas ASAP, you might as well just do it through the US Passport office.
