Planet Fitness Complaint - Cancellation of Membership
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLORIDA -- Earlier this year, my membership at Planet Fitness health club was cancelled by the manager against my will. Her rationale was that I had threatened her employee when she saw that I had a recording device in-hand when walking near the check-in counter. (The device was not actually on because the batteries were dead). The person at the front desk had routinely insulted me, as had other employees. The device is merely a means of deterrence, and as a legal defense for false accusations against me. (At another branch of Planet Fitness, a female employee insulted me in the bathroom. When I asked her to repeat what she said, she filed a complaint against me for harassment).
Although Florida is one of the twelve states that requires all parties to consent to a taped conversation, that does not apply to the taping of a non-electronic communication uttered by a person who does not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in that communication (e. g., in a public gym).
This is not the first state that I have received from Planet Fitness employees. While I was a member of the gym in Concord, NH in 2002, the employees would accuse me of VA medical benefits fraud both within the gym and in public areas (e. g., the local bank). The harassment was so severe that I cancelled my membership and joined another gym that required a thirty minute commute one-way.
