Myspace.com Informative - My space Has Been Invaded.

Review by FAMILYFIRST123 on 2010-09-24
Hello, I did not file this under complaint because I cannot say for sure I got a virus from Myspace. I was on the Myspace site when this happened.

I joined Myspace at my daughters request so we could keep in touch. And even more so, to play poker on the site as she thinks she can take all my chips.

Here is what I do know.

It's rare that I go on the site. A few days ago I did sign in. Went to the poker site on Myspace. Got my free chips and played a few hands. Lost some chips ( not to my daughter). And decided to purchase some chips. They have an option to have the fee charged to your cell phone. I thought, ok, sounds quick. I pushed the button to charge my phone $9.99 For something like 150,000 chips. Entered the phone number and hit order. It was loading. It said I would get a text... About then I received a phone call from a friend. We talked for over 20 minutes. I noticed the site was still loading / processing this whole time. As I was facing the screen it disappeared and a different screen popped up and a loading bar loaded before I could do anything. Somewhere around 65 viruses or 1 virus with 65 issues infected my computer. I never received a text.....

I have avg virus protection. It had been updated.
I have malawarebytes protection as well as my ips protection and windows security center protection.

I almost instantly did a scan of the entire system and wow. Loaded with viruses.

Locked viruses. And others

after I shut down the computer and tried to reboot the system I saw, error message, .Missing files or corrupt files.

I need to know if this is something anyone has heard of before. Or was it just my luck. I don't know the name of the company that Myspace has handle the poker chip orders and I am currently updating all the virus protection on this back up computer. I don't dare try to find out. If you know the name please let me know.
Thank you for reading my review.

Why are you shouting? This is a prime example of why I am very careful about where I go online, even with the best security program available.

Even though the OP is "shouting", I agree with his complaint.

MySpace is chock full of computer viruses, computer worms, and trojan horses. I've stopped using MySpace, as well as Facebook, as both of these sites have infected my computer.

MySpace and Facebook have terrible security and are truly wonderful sites for anyone wishing to obtain personal information. You can be sure anything you put on there is not safe.

Amen. I just saw on HLN that Facebook was down for several hours. I have more to do in my life that blog or spend all my time tweeting andsuch. My emails, MythBusters forums, and M3C are enough for me. I feel closer to my fellow three-centers than anyone else.

Is this a poker site run by Myspace, or just an advertiser or app that brings you to a new site? Also, did you check your phone bill to make sure you were only charged the $9.99 and not some crazy amount? I would have for you to have a huge phone bill on top of your foreclosure problem from your other post.

Honestly, there have been three known attempts by serious viruses to invade my computer that I am aware, thanks to my virus protection software. Two of those came from this website (My3Cents).

Please be sure you have UPDATED virus protection.

Ben there: I have not checked my phone bill. I will do that. I never recieved any text so I dont know if it was a scam or not. I dont know the name of the site and am not going to attempt to find it. I have no other computers to use and feel this site is therapeutic, lol. ( helps me think about other things) And yes, I dont need any other issues in my life. a foreclosure is very stressful. thank you for your comments everyone.

i rarely touch myspace anymore but... somehow the thought of having to pay even 9 bucks just for some imaginary items ... doesn't appeal to me. i mean if money wasn't tight i'd probably do it (there's some stuff i'd really like for my Second Life character) but... i have other financial priorities to handle first.

for the antivirus... it also depends on which one you have too. it doesn't hurt to have more than one - though dont run both at the exact same time.

Pepperelf, I understand your comment. Imaginary items are not a high priority for me either. It was just a way to do something with my daughter. She lives down south.
Times are tough. I do have other financial priorities. But I do still donate money. Help out family and look for some type of Entertainment on occassion. I do what I have always done. I live my life. Thank you for your comments.

A lot of the offers for "chip purchases" you see on myspace or other networking sites are not from the site itself. In fact the poker games are from a different website - these are usually third party, offshore companies that sell the chips and I am not suprised you ended up with a virus.
