Stafford Auto Sales Complaint - Stafford Auto Sales sold me a Lexus that was in a major accident and did not disclose it. - 2007 Lexus ES 350

2007 Lexus ES 350 - Complaint
Review by Ken123 on 2010-09-28
STAFFORD, VIRGINIA -- In April of 2010 I purchased a 2007 Lexus ES 350 from Stafford Auto Sales. The Carfax report showed that it had not been in an accident and no junk parts had been used in the car.

The President of Stafford Auto Sales told me the car was very clean. I test drove the car and it seemed fine. Because the Carfax report was clean I did not have it inspected by a mechanic. Carfax told me that the previous owner, or Stafford Auto Sales, did not report the accident, so it did not show up on their report.

It turns out that the car had major rear and front damage. I was told by my local Lexus dealership that it was a mess because junk parts were used in the repair. The car failed MD Inspection because the front rack and pinion steering leaked.

I have had numerous problems with the car since I bought. This is absolutely the worst consumer experience that I have ever had.

In my opinion, these people did not disclose the truth. More than one car expert has told me that they may have bought the car in a wrecked condition and spent a nominal amount in repairing it with substandard parts. I would stay away from Stafford Auto Sales!!

When buying a car that you plan to register in Maryland; first question is this "Has the vehicle passed its Maryland's Inspection?"

Unless the answer is YES and you can SEE the documentation, move on.

You don't know for sure that the dealership made the repairs; it could have been the previous owner, who didn't disclose it to the dealership. You should be able to trace ownership of the vehicle, who owned the car previously, including any salvage yard or auction company. Without solid evidence and proof that this dealership knew about the accident damage, you may be making unfair assumptions. If you can prove the dealership made the repairs, then you probably have grounds for legal action.

Because the CARFAX report was clean you didn't have it inspected by a mechanic? That is not a good reason IMO. It may have been not maintained at all, and the CARFAX could be perfectly clean.

How do you know who did the repairs? I don't see how you can hold Stafford responsible without proof. The safest thing to do with a late model car is have someone inspect it for $50-$100.
