Baker College Online Informative - Ok experience....
I attended Baker College Online for three years and I obtained my Bachelors Degree last Spring. Although I had a pretty good experience looking back on it I would have went to a traditional college or university had I put more thought into it. The good thing about Baker is their curriculum can be compared to that of a top 10 University or College, I know this because I work at one. I didn't attend school there because they don't offer online degrees. All of the professors that I had @ Baker held at least a Master's degree; most of them had a PhD. I had a few bad instructors, one did not interact with the class at all and the other two were just messy. That is a vague word, but it is the only one I can think of to describe them right now.
I do feel like the quality of the education I received at Baker was excellent; however, Baker is not flexible and this is what many adults are looking for in an online setting. The participation requirements become unreasonable especially when you have a professor that wants detailed responses (150-200 words minimum) at least two times a day, 5 days a week; Since participation often makes up 30-40% of your overall grade, you can receive really bad scores because of this. THAT IS A MAJOR DOWNSIDE TO BAKER COLLEGE. In addition to this, some of the professors expect you to submit homework assignments 4-5 times a week and this is extreme for an online school. The other downside to Baker is the cost. They boast about how their classes are cheaper than most institutions, and they are BUT you have to have more credit hours to graduate so it ends up being a little bit less or about the same in cost. It will also take you much longer to graduate unless you are constantly going to school all year with no breaks because they operate in quarter hours.
I had an ok experience @ Baker and as stated before I learned a lot. I already have a job making twice the amount that I earned before I graduated; however, I would not recommend the school to working adults with families at all.
