Kemper Insurance Complaint - Your agent is not always a good agent!

Complaint
Review by justices mom on 2010-10-07
In June of 2009, I was involved in a slight accident that was clearly a "set up". I wrote the incident out and knew that Kemper would investigate this person and find he indeed was an out-right crook. Instead they gave him $40,000 of money that they intended on me paying back with new much higher premiums. I had no clue what had happened un til I got the new premiums at renewal time. I was not even informed what had happened! When I talked to the agent who handled my case, he errogantly told me he made a business decision to just make the other person who claimed he was hurt, go away. (at my expense, of coarse) I had the person who claimed he was hurt investigated and found he had done this same thing several times before plus every other criminal act there is. If I could get this information, why couldn't he!!! I then pulled all my business from Kemper. I think that agent is a liability to his company and he feeds into a system of higher premiums for us. I don't know how you can get an agent to fight for you instead of taking the easy way out!

Unfortunately insurance companies don't really care. They look for the quickest and easiest way out.

It is likely the insurer simply settled with the claimant to avoid court costs. It is doubtful they investigated the incident and many injury claims are difficult to disprove.

That being said, insurance rates will almost always be increased in the event of an accident, despite who is at fault. The underwriters don't look to fault but to the fact you have had an accident.

It was not the agents decision to make. The claims department handles that and they determined it was cheaper to pay the money rather than pursue it. The insurance company has sole discretion as to how claims are defended. Your policy has a "duty to defend" clause and the rights and responsibilities of both parties are clearly spelled out. And policy is just a pretty name for a contract.
