Chicken of the Sea Complaint - Chicken of the sea Albacore Chunk white is all mushy!

Complaint
Review by ELI416 on 2010-10-10
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- I actually went in search, for any other negative experience with chicken of the seas "Chunk white Albacore Tuna".. and have found that others have had the same negative experience, there tuna is very mushy, hardly any chunks what so ever.. at first I thought maybe I had a bad can, but I have tried several cans and the results were the same. I actually think that chicken of the sea is misrepresenting their product and duping their consumers...Chunk White Albacore...NOT! Mushy tuna or dolphin, maybe? I will not buy this product again, until I've heard some positive changes have been made.
Chicken of the Seas, Chunk white albacore is terrible!

I've never found any brand of chunk light tuna that has actual chunks. They all are mushy, when it's chunk.

I prefer solid white, in the packages. It costs more, but it's so worth it.

The solid white in the packets are worth the extra money. Add some Miracle Whip and dill relish and you got yourself a tasty sammie.

There is some canned tuna--albacore--in chunks, packed in water that is not mushy. I buy it at Trader Joe (their brand). It has never been mushy. Their Tongol Tuna is also good. Both are also cheaper than the stuff in the packages, which is another plus. It's also "Dolphin Safe", a label everyone should look for when buying tuna.

Of all the major brands, I think Chicken of the Sea is the worst. I find canned solid white Star Kist to be the most consistent in quality, and I stock up when it's on sale for a dollar or less. My only complaint is that although the can is the same size, there's a lot less in there now.

I wish we had Trader Joe here. My daughter shops there a lot.

I've always been loyal to Bumble Bee solid, in water. I stock up on it when it goes on sale. But, like Venice, I've found that there seems to be a lot less in the cans than there used to be.

When I lived in Connecticut, we had a Trader Joe there too, in Milford & Danbury. Venice, I'm guessing they don't have them in your neck of the woods? We grew up with them on the west coast, so I'm pretty hooked on them.

AGREED! The name brand tunas are ALWASY mushy - its all the 'leavins' blown off the tuna carcuss and canned. Disgusting! My best luck has been with store brands such as Kroger brand... even Bumble Bee is better than the "premium" brands

Sing, I'm actually not that far from Connecticut. I just looked at the locations, and there are a lot in New York but none upstate. There are also a couple in New Jersey that aren't very far. I'm surprised they haven't opened one up here. Maybe it's in the works.

If you properly drain the water from the can it will be chunky and firm.

Maybe one is in the works, Venice. If you ever are near Danbury, check out that one. It's pretty nice.

I called them @ (858) 558-9662 and they were VERY helpful. They told me it happens on occasion due to the processing and cooking of the product. The gelatinous mass is caused by the vegetable broth. They want to know when it happens, so they can pin point the plant, and the problem.

I have ALWAYS bought Bumble Bee Solid White tuna but, as of late have been unhappy with the product. Today, I opened a can of Chicken of the Sea Solid White and am very happy with it. Taste great, consistency - no problem. Very purchase again.
