Thrifty Rent A Car Complaint - Beware Thrifty
I came to Columbus to see my Mom who had a heart attack.. She wound up having several complications and more surgery. I called Thrifty twice to extend my agreement. I was told my total would be $404. but that the bill would be adjusted if I produced evidence of her hospitalization. I got a document from the hospital. When I turned in the car the manager said he believed me but didn't care and would not adjust the bill. He would not even look at the hospital documents. He then kept my bill and receipt -- never had a thing like that happen in 30 years of travel. I called Thrifty and went through the whole saga with them. They said they could not even look into it unless I paid an outstanding balance! I said "What? I paid in full when I pulled the car in." The service representative could not tell me what it was for but said it was for $130 -- over the $404! Now, the weekly rate for unlimited miles is $129, and I saw nothing in the contract, which I read, about additional fees. I had the car 14 days. That's $260. plus various other fees. Not $400 and certainly not $500. Seems to me this operation is insensitive, rude, sleazy, and downright dishonest. People should know it and stay away.
