Toys R' Us Complaint - Electronics Return Policy Warning

I bought a Vivitar waterproof digital camera at Toys R Us. I tried the camera in the pool. The LCD screen showed no image underwater, picture results were poor, batteries lasted only about 25 shots. I returned it to Toys R Us. Return policy on electronic items allows only exchange for identical item, not refund. Policy is posted only on small card at checkout counter and on back of receipt. Fortunately I had purchased extended warranty. The warranty company gave me a refund and I returned camera to them. Beware that policy if buying anything electronic.

That policy is largely for video games and DVDs, not cameras. You could try another store and probably have returned it no problem. It's a good thing you bought the protection plan, that's exactly what it's good for. If it breaks or doesn't work, you got 15 months to get a TRU gift card for the amount you paid.

I understand the policy if it applied only to software items. The manager pointed to it as applying to "electronic items" and also called "corporate." Refund was denied. I was fortunate re extended warranty as I usually don't buy them. I would have been stuck, as no other similar cameras in stock, and TRU gift card wouldn't be much use. I insisted, and received a check.
