Purity Products Informative - Beware of all mega-potency products! - AFX example

AFX example
Review by wcomer on 2010-10-17
Most companies selling nutrition supplements create marketing programs to exagerate the potency and usefulness of their products.

For example, this morning on the car radio I heard a Purity Products "expert" waxing eloquently about the multi-health benefits of AFX. He stated that this product has 6,000 times the antioxidant value of vitamin C!

If that is factual, then this product is possibly poisonous to your body! Whatever antioxidant potency Nature created in food for your body is what is RIGHT for your body! That goes for ALL nutrients! Do not ingest multi-potency anything. Need extra vitamin C? Eat more foods containing vitamin C. The supplement industry mostly sells you synthetic nutrients. They are chemicals. The FDA authorizes the industry to claim Ascorbic Acid as being vitamin C. It is not! That is a lie. It is merely a single factor of the vitamin C complex. When you consume 1,000mg of ascorbic acid as vitamin C it acts as a drug in your body. It might make your infection symptoms cease, but it won't answer your body's deficiency and need for vitamin C complex. All symptoms are the body's communication that you have a deficiency, or toxic overload.

Self-disciplined people who do detox programs twice a year, eliminate addictions to carbs and sugar, and consume wholesome foods, tend not to have disease. There are genetic issue exceptions, of course. "Eat to live--not live to eat." "Eat only food that spoils, and eat it before it spoils."

This Purity AFX product, and all others in the industry similar to it, are counterfeit---all their study claims notwithstanding. American society has a "disease"-care system, not a "health"-care system. Do you know that the FDA is registered as a private corporation? It is not a people's regulatory agency. It's management staff mostly all come from the industry it supposedly regulates. Speak to your congress representative about that. He or she may or may not be on the take, but speak up anyway. The entire system is in serious need of detoxification!
Company Response:
When it comes to antioxidants – the more powerful the better. Like Vitamin C, the AstaREAL Astaxanthin in our new Asta FX formula is derived from natural sources such as salmon and shrimp. Our formula contains 4 mg of Astaxanthin per serving and has also been proven to be up to 6000 times more effective than Vitamin C and significantly more potent than Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic Acid, EGCG and Co-Q-10! Why is this so important? Antioxidants are nature’s way of fighting “free radicals” in our bodies. Free radicals are molecules that are destructive to our cells and tissue. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, so the more potent the antioxidant the more beneficial it is to our bodies. As for vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, we agree with you that a person who eats a well balanced diet every day would most likely not need to take nutritional supplements. Unfortunately, for most, eating a well balanced diet is not always possible or practical. For example, according to the Vitamin D council, many people have Vitamin D levels in the winter months that are 1/3 of what they are during the summer months due to a lack of sunshine, which is a natural source of Vitamin D. That’s why nutritional supplements are so important, they help fill in the gaps when we fail to get all the nutrition our bodies need every day. Amen! Amen! You are 100% correct and this is a very dangerous scam being thrust on the trusting public. A few years back I was taking a Vitamin Shoppe MEGA Vitamin that made me very VERY ill. Super high levels of B-12 threw my system so out of wack, they were testing me for MS and other neuro diseases. It wasn't until about a year after I stopped taking that stuff that my body gradually returned to normal. Mostly. I did not believe that anything that is potentially THAT harmful was sold.

A recent radio expose covered Purity Products. Numerous callers reported problems with the company sending merchandise that the customer did not want, and then automatically billing their credit cards. Even though the customer repeatedly told them NOT to mail any more merchandise, the overpriced products kept coming. The company also implied that it's products were recommended by a doctor-implying an M.D. The customers later complained that the "doctor" was in fact only a chiropractor!

I am grateful for the comments about mostly the Purity company. As a result, although I was thinking about ordering the free bottle deal, I decided I would face similar problems, it sounds like a bad company to me, so I agree, do NOT order from this company. I have had problems in the past with this sort of automatic shipments, it seems impossible to stop once started, DON'T DO IT!!

Guys, there's nothing wrong with Purity Products. They sell rather high priced supplements and their main thing is "a free bottle offer". If you go to their site and sign up for a free bottle, they'll tell you that you're signing up for their super saver program (a convenient way for them... uh I mean you to get charged for a new bottle every month and shipped to your door). If you don't like the product, you call them and you won't get charged anything more than about $5 for shipping and you cancel the auto ship program. They just count on the fact that you'll keep forgetting to cancel, you'll get charged for another month and say to yourself... crap, oh well I have 30 days before getting charged again... then you forget once again and walla another bottle etc. My solution to all these auto ship, renew programs are those visa gift cards at the store. Find the cheapest one. If something costs 39.95, get one for $50 or even $100 (just make sure that in 30 days or whatever increment that they charge you, you don't have 39.95 left on it) and then when they try to charge you again, ha ha ha good luck. It's cheap insurance to getting charged again and it's even easier than cancelling. Trust me, after trying your card several thousand times... they'll cancel it for you. Anyway, Purity is a decent company and with the person with the B-12, total coincidence if that actually happened. You can take as much or many b vitamins as you'd like. They're water soluble, not fat soluble. If you got several bottles of b vitamins and started gulping them down with water, you'd die from drowning, not the b vitamins.

Just find it difficult that a man who gets royalties from purity runs the so called vitamin d council flogging high potency vitamin d .A council partly sponsored by a company that sells sun beds which are bad for people.

The fist day I took it I took two tablets the next day I took two tablets and felt a pain on my right side hip. I looked in the mirror to see if something was wrong and I had 3 big red welches on my right side hip swollen and itchy I went to the doctor and they gave me a steriod liquid to rub on the bumps after 4 days it went away Istoped taking the pills right away. After the bumps went I took one more pill just to see if anything would happen. After I took it half an hour later I started to get a little swelling in that same area. The next day I had a huge lump one and a half inches round .I put the antibiotics on it and now on the third day it is starting to go away.I have not taken any since and everything is ok

As a practitioner I should know better but I tried AstaFx due to the antioxidant claims. I took one pill because I have a low tolerance to medications, and formulations. Most are based on limited evidence. I also read the under flap ingredients, olive oil, vegetable cellulose, wax, d alpha TA, rosemary oil and chlorophyllin and felt some caution. That being said my one pill gave me a feeling of being light headed, odd full feeling in my stomache with a rosemary/ chlorophyllin overwhelming taste in my mouth, later in the evening I had some ringing in my ears. I am a very heathly, fit female these symptoms were very clear, symptoms I had never experienced before. I cancelled before I took the pill because like the rest of you I do not like to be forced to buy anything. Though I rarely order anything I usually cancel as soon as I get the product so I do not get caught in the game. With further examination Krill oil should be included to increase absorption. I also feel these fillers should be eliminated. Saw this chat while doing further research on this product and astaxanthin. No more of this product for me.

Purity Products offers what they would refer as premium supplements. While I have experimented with their products to subjectively determine a benefit, I have always found them to be clear in what they offer, the terms of replacement, and the ability to cancel orders. I find them a bit high priced and have never noticed significant measurable benefits.

As to the impacts of supplements over natural foods, I would ask you to visit indigenous primitive cultures around the world. As a whole they do not live longer, they do suffer premature death and illness, and they pay far less for their groceries (hunters and gatherers).

If you feel Astaxanthin is beneficial for you, try the Costco version made by Trunature. One capsule contains 6mg of Astaxanthin with AstaReal. A bottle with 100 softgels has 100 servings and costs about $21.

If you want to try the "free" bottle, use a prepaid debit card with only a small balance left on it. That way you will avoid automatic shipments.

If you visit the Purity AstaFX web site, you will notice only a tiny reference to the actual price of a bottle of the product on the automatic shipment plan. On a per serving basis, it is over 5 times the Costco price. Buyer beware.
