Delta Airlines Complaint - Lost Luggage
Resolution Update on 10/26/2010:
Got my bag back after four days! Bag was unharmed and all contents accounted for. Kudos to the Delta people who called me everyday (sometimes twice a day)to update me on its status.
Flew from Laguardia in NYC to Detroit Metro. At the security line, a screener tells me I can't bring my suitcase onboard the plane as it's too big. No big deal as I checked it at the gate when we flew from DTW to NYC. However, I was not permitted to check it at the gate and she rudely insisted it had to go to oversized baggage. I tried in vain to explain that it's not oversized but she was more interested in yelling at me. A DELTA EMPLOYEE escorted me to oversized bags where my suitcase was taken and whisked away. I asked if they needed to tag it, do I need a receipt, etc. The DELTA EMPLOYEE said "No, we already have all your information". Unfortunately, I was worried about leaving my family at the security line and missing the flight. I left the bag. Once a the gate, I used a DELTA AIRLINES COURTESY PHONE to check on my bag as I started to have second thoughts. I was told by the DELTA EMPLOYEE on the phone not to worry, that they had me registered as having checked in one bag. Well, I arrived in Detroit and my bag is nowhere to be found. I went to DELTA OVERSIZE BAGGAGE and the simpleton standing there looked at me like I spoke a foreign language. I then went to DELTA BAGGAGE SERVICES where I was told "Sir, we don't even show you checking in a bag." Really? I explained that's not what I was told by the DELTA EMPLOYEE at LaGuardia. Anyway, she politely took my information and said a claim would be followed; hopefully someone with common sense would see that an untagged bag is sitting in NYC that matches the description of a bag meant to go to Detroit. She could sense my frustration and was extremely polite and sincere. My wife says not to worry, that my bag will be found. I have a feeling either the bag is gone for good, or it will come back with items missing; the whole thing just doesn't feel right.
Moral of the story? I'm not checking in jack squat next time unless it's at the gate.
