Pine Grove Ranch Compliment - Pine Grove Ranch A fun vacation
KERSHONKEN,, NEW YORK -- We went to Pine Grove in August of 2010 despite reading a ton of negative reviews. I was so concerned that I called the manager, Bill, before booking the vacation to express my concern for all of the negative reviews and to ask his honest opinion. He could not have been nicer. Rather than be insulted at my questions, he was understanding and warm. He informed me that Pine Grove is not a luxury resort. It is a ranch. Negative reviews come from people who are expecting luxury and are disappointed. He even offered to let me, my husband, and my five children come up and spend a full day, meals included, at the ranch, without paying for it, in order to decide whether I wanted to book or not. I booked our trip, and I did not regret it. Pine Grove is clean, whimsically decorated in a western theme, and entertaining. I would put it almost on par with a moderate resort at Disney. It is certainly much better than a Disney value resort. Our room was very clean. The bathroom was new, and the mattresses, which I always check for bed bugs, were brand new. My husband is diabetic, so Bill comped us a fridge to keep his insulin in. The staff was warm and friendly, especially the wait staff in the restaurant. My children were kept active from morning till night, and I was exhausted. The ranch hands were fantastic in helping us ride the horses, and the trail was more interesting than others I have been on as we travelled through the woods, rather than on some well worn path. My daughter is an acomplished rider, and she had a blast.
The food was very, very good and plentiful. You could always get a meal, albeit lunch was not fantastic, but ice cream was always available to the kids. My only complaint was that some of the activities could stand sprucing up. They need new laser guns, and a new tee pee, plus a cue ball for the pool tables. There were three pool tables and only two cue balls. Some things appear run down, but my kids did not care at all, and had more fun than they had in Disney. By the end of our visit, my children felt free to roam the property, and felt very at home. Bill was very available for all guests in case of any problems, and was a genuinely friendly, honest person. I will be happy to go there again. I was going to go to Rocking Horse Ranch instead, but Pine Grove was literally half the price. If you want to have a great time, laugh, eat well, and ride horses, Pine Grove is the place to go.
