Meadowlands Nissan Complaint - Overpriced/Unnecessary Service Packages
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY -- On Saturday, I went to Meadowlands Nissan in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ for an oil change. AN OIL CHANGE - nothing more. I also told them that the brake light wasn't working and I wanted to buy a spare key if possible. He said the price was $34.95, and I agreed. The representative tried to sell me on getting the system flushed and I told him that I didn't need it, I had it done last year. I left the complete service records on the dashboard for them to review. I asked if there were anything that could be done about the crappy gas mileage (only 15 mpg!) and he said, "No. If the Check Engine Line isn't on, the car is running the way it is supposed to run."
I went to the waiting room, and waited. And waited. And WAITED. Eventually, the representative came out, shoved a paper in front of me and said to sign this. I saw a price of $595, and I couldn't quite figure out why. I thought, "Damn, that's an expensive light bulb." Eventually I figured that the price must be for the electronic key.
Then I waited and waited and waited, for a couple of hours. I missed the appointment to pick my sick dog up at the vet. By the time they came out to tell me my car was ready, I was pretty pissed off, but I did hold my temper when I looked at the bill. He gave me a key - just the key - without the electronic gadget that locks and unlocks the car. The bill was for $601! That's one expensive OIL CHANGE.
They had written on the bill that they "performed 15K service at the customer's request". At no point, did I request the 15K service. If they had bothered to look at the service records, they would have seen that I already had the 5K, 10K, 15K all the way up to 50K services - on a car that has less than 12K miles on it. They charged more than $200 for this unnecessary and unrequested service, and I am ANGRY. There were many things I could have better spent $600 on.
Meadowlands Nissan obviously feels the need to bolster their bottom line at the expense of their customer's pockets. I'm sure the customer service representative got a nice little bonus for foisting that service on me.
