Royal Buffet Compliment - Excellent Chinese Buffet

Review by Starlord on 2010-11-11
We finally got around to trying the Royal Buffet restaurant in Chehalis, WA. I was impressed by the atmosphere when we entered, as the ambiance was wonderful. They did not try to make it look like you were in the forbidden city, but there was a moderate Chinese influence. The music playing was from the fifties, after the Big Band era, and before the birth of rock and roll, at a level that did not prevent conversation. The food was delightful, the General Tso's chicken being some of the best I have eaten. The egg drop soup was wonderful, with a very clear broth, with clouds of egg white. Delicious. The Asian lady who was the hostess was genuinely concerned that our dining experience was up to par. As an aside, I had my regular hot tea, and for a change, it did not look like hot water, but had good color and great taste. We will be going back to the Royal again, for sure.

A buffet with Tso's Chicken? How much?

Lunch is $6.99, and dinner is $10.99. However, I feel it is well worth it. They also have Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Mogolian Pork, Brocolli, Onion and Raisin Salad (delicious), a full salad bar, and a whole desert table, as well as pizza . Good luck.

I never had Mongolian bbq before. I have always wondered how they prepare it. Baked, grilled roasted or what?

Cev, you haven't had good BBQ until you've had Basher's BBQ!
*JKT agrees*

Pretty good huh?
Do you make your own sauce and dry rub it?
Do you use a smoker or just grill them?
Posted by D. on 2010-11-11:

Mongolian BBQ isn't really BBQ. You walk around and put all this "stuff" in a bowl (meat, sprouts, veggies, etc....). You make a huge pile of goodies then put some sauce on it. It isn't BBQ sauce, it is usually a thin soy-like sauce. Then you hand it to the chef. He had some huge spinning stone in front of him and he throws your goodies on it and spins them around, cooks them up and hands you this teeny bowl of stuff back. You eat it, and still ravenous have to repeat this process several times. You leave still hungry because you were too embarrassed to go back up after the second time. That is Mongolian BBQ.

Great review, Star! My favorite Chinese buffet closed and I haven't been able to find another one that I like as much. This one sounds very nice. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Gosh, now I want to go to a Chinese buffet! We used to go ocassionally with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who loved this one in particular.

And I haven't had Mongolian BBQ in years, but I keep telling my husband we have to go, because he'd love it. incrediblelee, my hubby would NOT be embarrassed to keep going back until he was satisfied!
