Barnes and Noble NOOK Complaint - My NOOK died after only 7 months! - NOOK 3gig

NOOK 3gig - Complaint
Review by see the world on 2010-11-12
Got a NOOK in April 2010 and can't put it down, except now. At sea, 6 days into a 17 day cruise and my NOOK completely died! The page froze and I cannot do anything! I'm SO upset! Do I gewt another NOOK or go to another brand? I won't be back in CA for 2 more weeks and I have NOTHING to read!

Since you have internet access, you can go to their website and check the technical support board for suggestions.

Remove the battery and plug it into a wall outlet. Then hold down the power button to reboot. From what I hear, Nooks are notorious for battery issues. I hope you are up and running soon and that it doesn't ruin your trip. If you decide to replace it, go IPAD!!

Its time to nuke that Nook!

The nook has a 1 year warranty. Call the manufacturer when you get back on dry land and they will probably send you another one.

yeah, take out the battery and plug it in, then see if it works. you'll be good as new in NO time.

Traditional books don't look so bad after reading this complaint.

There are always benefits to traditional books trmn8r. For starters, you lose the benefit of sharing a great read when you use an e-book reader. I hate that! But folks never return the books to me anyway.

I love the books that engross you so much to the point that you lose sight of those around you. Almost physically. You can actually feel yourself in the story or plot. The leaves crunching beneath your feet, the cold wind sending a chill down your spine, etc...I almost have to be shook to be brought back from the trance I fall into when reading a REALLY good book:)

I don't have an e-book or whatever they are called, but I would try what Incrediblelee suggested. Most electronic devices will do a soft reset when the battery is pulled.

On a side note, if you have an Android phone, you can download the Nook app right to your phone and have the same access to all the books B&N offers, plus it will link to your account and you'll have access to the books you've already purchased.

I have an Android phone, but Im still not gonna download an e-book app.

I never saw the day coming where people could read a book on their cell phone.

I love reading books on my iPhone! Cuts out the need for a book light when I want to read at night in bed. And I always have it with me, so if I find myself waiting at the doctor's office, or wherever, I can whip out my book.

My old eyes just won't do it momsey...lol!

Nook is about to die out anyway - because Amazon just announced an Ebook Sharing program. I've owned my Kindle for 1.5 years, and had to have it replaced once. They had the new one in my hand before I had even sent the old one back. (the problem was purely cosmetic).

I've heard horror stories about B&N customer service, but most electronics have a one year warranty on them. Hopefully you can get it replaced. But again, consider the Kindle. It outperforms the Nook by leaps and bounds.

I love my color nook and fyI Nooks do have sharing features. It beats all the ereaders out there in my opinion. Great colored visuals, nice wifi, will read childrens books out loud, has pandora radio, unlimited web, email, serves as an electronic photo album, has cookbook searches, google earth etc. It is so portable and light weight. I bring it everywhere. I am a writer as well as a reader, and after having my NOOK, I could easily throw out all my books since I can now have my entire library on a 7 inch screen, which I can adjust for my poor eyes. I haven't read a traditional book since I went electronic and there is only one person in my book club that is still reading the old fashioned way. I just love reading in bed with my nook. I just wish the Nook wasn't a Barnes and Nobel product because their customer service is not the best.
