McDonald's Corporation Complaint - Orange Juice a lot more expensive than Soda!
LANDER, WYOMING -- I'm in the process of moving, so all of my kitchen items are packed, which means eating out this week. Yesterday for breakfast, I went to McDonalds and ordered a #1 with a medium soda (Egg McMuffin & hashbrown). It came to $5.30. Today, I ordered a #1 with a medium orange juice. It was $6.54. $1.24 more for the healthy drink option?!? I thought McDonalds was trying to improve their image and make healthier options available to people at a reasonable price? It's not reasonable to charge $1.24 more for a medium orange juice than for a medium soda, especially considering the medium orange juice is still 1/2 the size of the medium soda. It's very distressing to know that so many people eat less healthy because of cost! If you have McDonalds for breakfast on your way to work each morning, that's $24.80 more a month to have orange juice, as opposed to soda, or $297.60 more a year. This is a McDonalds wide issue, not a local store issue.
To be clear: There are a few comments suggesting I should go ahead and drink a soda since the meal is so unhealthy anyway....to that I say hogwash. I am not trying to "watch my calories" or "make up for junk food with a healthy side dish" and I'm not "trying to avoid sugar". All of these assumptions are incorrect. I don't want the caffeine and I don't want the carbonation. I also like to try and get Vitamin C in the morning in the form of whole foods. Since I am out of my normal routine with moving, I am trying my best to get it with what options I have. Eating an orange might be healthier than drinking OJ from McD's, but that's not the point of my post. Soda is one of the worst things you can add to your diet and I try not to drink it very often. I do not eat fast food very often so I am really shocked at this price difference. I suppose people who eat it a lot have become jaded to the overall implication with the price difference. Yes, OJ is more expensive in the grocery store than soda, but it's not anywhere near THIS type of price difference.
It's all about money
