Spirit Airlines Complaint - Use your hard earned dollars on another airline
First let me start be saying I was once a loyal Spirit customer. They still do have among the cheapest flight deals in the industry if you are ok with a no frills environment. (they will nickle and dime you to death, for bags of any kind, pre booked seats, even water) But eventually their corporate decision to throw customer service out the window and strictly rely on price as their competitive advantage has led me to never fly with them again. On a recent flight they sent the wrong size of airplane apparently and as such about half of the people at the airport would not be able to fly home as scheduled. I understand accidents happen, how this particular type of accident happens is beyond me, but nonetheless I am a fairly forgiving type. However where Spirit really lost it was how they handled this instance both at the airport and once I contacted them after we returned home. At the airport it was a disorganized mess, they had 2 people, one of which went on break in the middle of this situation handling about 100 plus rebookings. The staff were of course stressed and that may have contributed to them being rude, and uncaring. In both instances they simply said this is how it is, too bad all we need to do is get you back to your destination. Didnt matter that our direct flight on Spirit turned into a 7 hour connection on American Airlines (who by the way were wonderful). If we were asked to volunteer to be bumped on an overbooked flight we would be offered at least $300 in compensation, and yet here we were and they wouldn't give us anything at all in compensation, not even a refund on the return portion of our flight. Do yourself a favour, spend an extra couple of dollars and go with an airline who will care somewhat about your personal circumstances rather than hiding behind absurd customer service policies.
