ACER Compliment - 4+ Years and No Problems

Compliment
Review by Liz! on 2010-11-23
I bought my first Acer over four years ago and have not had any bad hardware related problems. I bought the Acer because one of my friends (who I really trust with respect to electronics) has one that has always worked well for her. The biggest thing that I LOVE about my Acer is that it is not prone to heat issues (like every other laptop I've used). And I'm bad ... I had to replace the fan on my old laptop 3 times because hair would get caught up in it.

I bought an Acer Netbook about 1.5 years ago and have not had any problems with either. However, if you are considering a Netbook (AT ALL, not just Acer) you should remember that they are not made for programs that require a lot of processing power! (including Microsoft Software ... it works, but only if you're not doing much else) Netbooks are made for browsing the interNET. I use mine mostly for streaming TV & Movies and working on my webpage or research papers (1 instance of Word/WordPad and 2 of Firefox).

I can honestly say that I have never had to deal with their Tech Support (mostly because I can fix many things myself).

SUMMARY: Acers are GREAT in my book!

That's why most netbooks use a watered-down version of Windows 7 called "Windows 7 Starter". Older netbooks would use either Windows XP Home or Linux. Again, they're good for web surfing, YouTube, and e-mail, and that's about it. You'd need to buy an external DVD drive to download programs/music/movies or watch DVD's. The super-cheap 7" netbooks (such as the $99 Sylvania netbook sold by CVS) use Windows Embedded CE, and their use is even more limited, mainly due to CE being the Windows that is used for cell phones, and you are limited mainly to using "mobile" versions of web sites; full versions of web sites would either load poorly, or not at all, on these cheap Windows CE netbooks...and the memory, storage, and video/audio on these are pathetic. They are also not easily upgradeable.
