Wal-Mart Informative - Price Matching How To

Review by LetitGoShopper on 2010-11-27
I know money isn't going as far as it use to and a way to save is by using stores Price Match policy. With that being said NOT EVERYTHING can be price matched and there are some exceptions.

1. The competitors Ad is REQUIRED to price match. We the cashiers have to see and be be able to look at the other stores item plus our own to determine if it is the exact same item brand for brand, size for size, so that if any higher up tries to question why we overrode an item we can tell them what store, what item, and what page it was on.

2.Alcohol and Tobacco products CANNNOT be price matched under any circumstance. It a law and not just a Walmart thing, and throwing a hissy fit and asking for a manager is not gonna do anything.

3.Stores that have plus cards or what ever they are called we DO NOT match those prices. If another store's ad has $.88 WITH CARD and $1.00 WITHOUT, but ours is regular priced at $1.50. We will not match the $.88 price only because Walmart does not have plus cards therefore we will not honor them. Now I know some stores or maybe some cashiers will but it is a Walmart policy. So if one cashier does it at one store but then you go to another store and they won't do it, getting mean trying to intimidate the cashier by asking for a manager is only holding up the line. Either don't buy the product at that store or get it at the WITHOUT CARD.

4. Yes we do match some fruit and vegatable prices, also meats. Also don't bring a ad for some cheap no brand meat and try and get Perdue or Organic meats with it.

5.DON'T try and price match at Self-Check Outs it annoys the cashier and is a hassle and it holds up the lines as is knowing your going to pay by check yet you choose to use a Self Check Out.

Overall a helpful post, thank you. As for one comment you made about self checkout (" it annoys the cashier ") - would this be the same cashier that stands around idle and rarely tries to assist anyone? This seems to be the norm for the self checkout cashier at the Walmart stores I have frequented.

Walmart does honor the Shopping card prices. http://walmartstores.com/7659.aspx

All this stuff is too complicated for me. I wish stores would just forget about all these price guarantee gimmicks, coupons, rebates, vouchers, and all that.

Yes, they sure do hold up the line and that doesn't help the store or the consumer. I'm sure the OP is making some good points about the finer points of doing business with Walmart but I just don't want to devote my time to screwing around with a bunch of little rules and who has a plus card and when I can and cannot use self checkout.

Life's too short.

All great to know. Thanks!

getoverit-> I'm with you all the way. These gimmicks just cause headaches when it comes time to checkout, and also for the customer service desk, I assume.

I rarely use a coupon, never have or will use price matching. I do use a store card, because my list usually includes something that requires it for a discount at my favorite store.

My wife works the store cards, coupons and in-store specials quite well, and often saves as much as 50% off the retail price. I don't understand people who insist on paying full price when it is so easy to save money.

Star, I shop the same way and can easily cut the bill in half. All it takes is a little organization. I too do not understand why anyone would pay full price when it's so easy to pay less.

I am a couponoholic. I clip coupons every week out of my sunday paper, and find a bunch online. I save at least 15 dollars every time I go grocery shopping. I also shop at wal mart since they have the lowest price. MY coupons combined with wal marts low prices, I almost feel like a theif! You have to be a SMART coupon clipper though. There are a lot of coupons that are not worth my time to clip, such as the save 25 cents on THRE, or save a dollar on FIVE. Wheres the savings in that?
