Big Lots in Littleton, CO Complaint - False Advertisment and lack of supply - Jazz Camcorder

Jazz Camcorder - Complaint
Review by asb50 on 2010-11-27
LITTLETON, COLORADO -- I am really pissed off at the fact that I waited in line, early in the morning, and found out the item I was wanting to purchase had limited quantites... not only did they have very few on hand THEY said it was only ONE to a customer!! Since when does a person walk into a store and be told sorry, but you are only allowed to purchase one of something?? It's a good thing I wasn't buying toilet paper!!! It was inconsiderate and deceitful!!!!! It was a ploy to get customers in the store to buy other items. There's something to say about honesty and integrity.... however, Big Lots has no clue! I will not go back to ANY Big lots ever again!

you have got to be kidding! You have NEVER seen a limit on 'doorbuster' type promos????? I guess the first person should buy them all and that would be fair?? Try reading the ad again, I'm sure those terms were disclosed.

Sale items always have limits. If they did not have a limit, then one person would be able to buy all of whatever is on sale, therefore not allowing anyone else to purchase the on sale items. No deceit here.

Many stores all throughout the year advertise certain items as one per customer.

All the time. It's to prevent one greedy person from buying up all of the item and shafting the other paying customers.

And this is exactly as it should be. I recall when my daughter was young, the Cabbage Patch Doll craze on Christmas. This was before most stores started setting limits. I watched a buyer in line ahead of me on Black Friday, Load up a shopping cart with 10 of the dolls. Out of curiosity I politely asked why he was purchasing so many. He happily gave me his Ebay seller ID and told me I could bid on one there.

I found this review quite helpful for individuals not understanding exactly how it works. Those items are loss leaders at any store. You are correct asb50. It is in fact a ploy to get customers in the store to buy other items. You learned and perhaps others will as well. We can't be too greedy and take advantage.

Many grocery stores have limits on heavily discounted items all the time.

I'm just going to delete my own comment.

Leet, our daughters must be around the same age because I remember the Cabbage Patch craze well. My husband was working a part time job at Sears and got first dibs on the shipments. I think my daughter ended up with two or three dolls that Christmas, which we had no intention of selling.

I was at the grocery store once and saw a man checking out with two carts piled high with 2-liter bottles of Pepsi that was on sale. He completely cleared the shelves. As I was checking out, I asked the manager about it and she told me he owned the local convenience store and sold the soda there at a much higher price. She said there was nothing she could do, I don't know why she didn't enforce the policy limiting sale items. Maybe she just got tired of him coming back until he bought it all. Anyway, that's why there are limits.

We had several newspapers that ha many Black Friday fliers. On the majority o=f ads for featured items were limits of one per household or individual, depending on store policies. On a few, I saw notices like "Each store receives XX items, limit one per household." This is a fairly standard practice on featured items, and is in no way, shape or form false advertising. Grow up and learn how things work around you.

Of course stores are goiong to have a limit on how many someone can purchase. ESPECIALLY on black friday. It is in place to prevent greedy people from trying to load up on all the deep discounted merchandise. Do you really think its fair for one person to be able to buy 15 camcorders to sell on ebay while everyone else in line is waiting to buy one too? I dont think so! lol I bet MY HOUSE this OP would be here complaining if Big Lots had no limit, and a customer in front of them bought up all the camcorders. THEN they would be here complaining about not HAVING limits! Youre damned if you do, damned if you dont!

Consider this...

Lets say the guy who walked in before you bought out the entire inventory, you would probably be even more upset. At least now you were able to buy one.
Posted by PepperElf on 2010-11-28:
life - exactly.

many people are all for "buying up all of the items" ... unless someone else buys all of them up.

So yes I wonder... what would the OP here do if there wasn't a limit... and someone else bought it all up? Would the OP still support the concept of no limits?

Yes, they DO use it as a ploy to get you into the store to buy other items. It's called MARKETING. They don't enjoy just giving away goodies for almost nothing. They want to give you SOMEthing and hope they earn the money back another way fair and square. I am glad you were able to at least get one of the items. Most people in those long lines go away empty-handed.

I am certain the limit of one camcorder per customer was in the fine print at the end of the ad. Or at the very least the standard "we reserve the right to limit quantities."

And how can you not understand that doorbuster items on Black Friday may have limited quantites? That's why people go so nuts early in the morning mobbing the stores, getting into fights, trampling others, and so forth.

Not only does Big Lots want to ensure as many people as possible can get at least one camcorder, but they also don't want people buying a ton of an item that's being sold at a loss and nothing else.
