privacymatters.com Informative - Complaint - Free credit report

Review by postman37620 on 2005-03-20
I received a spam email from privacymatters.com stating that you could receive a free credit report. I typed in my email address and name and zip code and hit enter. Then another message came up indicating that a fee of $1.00 would be charged to a credit card. I should have opted out at that point because I smelled a rat but placed the order anyway. Then another message came up about having to cancel a membership within 5 days by calling an 800 number or the credit card would be billed a monthly fee of $14.95. Well I logged onto the web site to get my free credit report and promptly received a message that my credit report was unobtainable and that I would need to call an 800 number and talk to a customer rep. Of course the 800 number was constantly busy and was never able to get through. I finally cancelled my membership by email after seeing that my credit card was charged $1.00 for the credit report and the next day was charged $14.95 for the month. Don't fall for this scam.
