The Hotel Cairns Complaint - Baa Humbug - Accommodation and Food Served Christmas Party 2010
CAIRNS -- To whom it may concern.
My wife and I attended the Jeep Club Christmas function at your establishment on Saturday night, the 20th of November. Whilst the company, was excellent, the meal that was served was nothing less than a disaster.
We were provided with a menu for the fixed course meal beforehand, so we had some expectations of what should have been presented to us. Although the presented food did conform somewhat to your menu, that was where the resemblance stopped.
The meagre portion of salmon was barely sufficient to ensure a taste with the bread served with it.
The main course, to be honest, would not reach the standard of a simple cafe. The stuffed pork appeared to be fat laden, belly pork, far from good cuisine. The stuffing was a dry, gelatinous mass with the consistency of chewing gum rather than a moist stuffing that had been cooked within the meat as detailed on your menu. As for the crackling, there was no sign of it. Even your staff couldn't find it when questioned.
The desert had the consistency of blotting paper rather than cheesecake.
Your drink service was abysmal to say the least. Several of our members actually went to the bar to get service - they ran out of patience after waiting thirty minutes. One of our members refused to order any drink and in protest, refused a free drink that was offered in compensation for your dismal service.
At one stage, a member of your staff arrived to serve plates of food. This apparition was dressed in a non uniform shirt and was drenched in perspiration. This was not an appetising sight and one wonders how much perspiration dripped onto the food.
Overall, our experience at your restaurant and hotel accommodation was less than dismal. Unfortunately for your establishment, this was not unique. Whilst you may pander to the tourist market, offering such poor quality to local people is not in your best interest. It is a shame, because in past years, this establishment had an excellent reputation. Alas, that is now history.
