EMachines Informative - Hard to get answers from tech support.
Computer worked well. Problem begins with the introduction with a Trojan Virus. Was unable to recover operating system with on-board recovery. Ordered $20.00 recovery disk and it would not fully execute. Emachines sent a new set of recovery disk and would not work. Discussion about problems with computer is only allowed over a chat-room. Support was superficial regarding the recovery. Company reiterates several times that I have not purchased, nor do I have any warranty, or available gratis-support. Resorted to an attempt to load a fully functional XP operating system. Machine will not accept the operating system.
Overall, the computer was loaded with nice amenities. I have given it to a friend who tried to diagnose it for me. He could not recover the machine so I have given it to him to use as parts.
My impression of this scenario is that Emachines has either produced a product with poor quality control, or purposely fixed the computer so that it cannot be recovered without purchasing support.
My recommendation is to look for computers that have recovery disk included in the box at time of purchase. There are at least two or three other computer brands to choose from that may be a little pricier, but worth the expense.
