Emco Complaint - Emco says storm doors are SUPPOSED to leak!
A month ago, we purchased a very inexpensive storm door for the back door to our home and had it professionally installed. We noticed that it allowed in a good bit of rain, called the contractor, and asked him to fix it. He came over, and saw that there were no weepholes, so the rain splashing against the door had nowhere to come but in -- hitting the wooden door that it was supposed to protect. The leaking occurred neither at the top or the bottom of the door, but in the middle where the top part of the glass and the bottom part of the glass meet. When I called Emco to complain about this, they informed me that Emco doors are supposed to leak, but that they would send me some weather stripping if I found that to be a problem. After speaking to a manager and getting the same response, I told them I would take the matter up with Home Depot (where I purchased the door). I went to Home Depot the next day, and the young woman working at customer service called Emco, after I explained what happened. She was certain I misunderstood, but they told her the same thing -- storm doors are supposed to leak! She then got a manager from Emco, and was again told that the doors are supposed to leak, and again emco offered to send me weather stripping. Again, I declined. Home Depot took the door back for store credit and I purchased another one (a Pella) -- I will never buy an Anderson or Emco product again!
