Chipotle Informative - Vegetarians Beware - vegetarian tacos

vegetarian tacos
Review by The Customer Service Advisor on 2010-12-09
On 12/08/10, I ate at the Chipotle in Oak Brook, IL on 22nd St.

I asked to speak with the manager. She was a very short (4'11" Hispanic woman). I am a vegetarian and wanted guacamole tacos. In the past, when I have asked for quacamole tacos, I have ended up with very soggy tomato tacos with a garnish of guacamole. That wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted guacamole tacos. So, I told her what I wanted. I wanted an order of tacos. That isn't what she charged me for (unbeknownst to me at the time). She charged me for two tacos, when I expected to get three. At no time did I tell her I wanted to buy my tacos individually. I was charged $2.20 per taco + $1.80 for guacamole (for a total of $6.71 with tax). The guacamole was the main ingredient for my vegetarian tacos. It was not like I was asking for extra garnish. When someone buys meat tacos you do not charge extra for the meat. When I left I was starving and had to go eat lunch someplace else.

Also, the parking spots in the parking spots only left about 14" in between cars. If I lived close to that location, I wouldn't go there anyway, because the chances of your car getting dinged are extremely high.

How is a vegetarian supposed to get what they order and not be overcharged?

What exactly does the woman's height have to do with anything. I'm not sure what they put in a veggie taco but I do know that Chipotles charges us carnivores extra for guacamole. Is it normally included in a veggie dish?

If I understand your review right, you wanted to substitute the main ingredient, meat, for guacamole (a guac taco) and are upset b/c you were charged regular price for a meat taco and extra for the guac. And that this is not an actual item on their menu. Is that right? Do they have an actual veggie taco on their menu?

Not familiar with Chipotle, but can only assume they don't do substitutions like that and that's why you were charged the way you were.

guacamole is a separate item on the menu (with chips). You were ordering a "side" if you will of guacamole, therefore the additional charge. When you choose a lifestyle, you sometimes have to pay more. IE an organic only lawn, garden or diet will definitely cost you more than "off the shelf" non organic will.

Avocados are expensive. I would think to have a taco stuffed with guac rather than meat would be a special order and would cost more. How much are tacos normally?

If you don't want to be overcharged for being a vegetarian then simply go to a vegetarian restaurant. Since there is no guacamole tacos you simply got a regular beef taco without the meat and extra guacamole. Since the poor woman behind the counter had no other way to document your special order you got what you asked for. You still have to pay for the beef even though you did not want it and you had to pay for the extra guacamole. Otherwise the woman behind the counter would have to pay for it. Plus your special order caused extra labor. It's your choice not to eat meat and request special meals, you have to pay for it.

why not just go to a restuarant that is vegetarian?
