H&R Block Complaint - H&R Block Emerald Card Rip Off

Complaint
Review by homzie on 2010-12-11
We tried to make an online purchase with our prepaid H&R Block Mastercard. The online store did not have the item in stock that we were trying to purchase and the transaction was cancelled. Our $408 is being held by H&R Block in pending status and they will not give us our money. They said that in order for us to get our money back we have to have the online store fax them a release of funds. The online store will not do so because they never received the funds because the order did not go thru, therefore there is no money for them to release. I have been on the phone for a week now back and forth trying to resolve this. EVERY single time I have called H&R Block they can barely speak English and they lie. One time we were told the money would be back on the card in 2 days, the next time we were told 24 hours and then one minute later they told me that the online store had to send the fax or they would not release the money. Our only option is to wait they said until January when the pending status is expired. We can't wait until then because this was supposed to be a Christmas presant for our son. We don't have the money laying around to go buy a new one!! This is so frustrating to us that they don't even care. Don't EVER EVER waste your money on these people! They are liars and don't care at all about their customer service!

Please don't go to H&R Block for your taxes. The first Mr.olie was a CPA, and I learned a good deal about filing tax returns. I'm sure he'd do mine for a really, really reasonable cost, but I don't want him to have our personal financial information.

The current Mr.olie and I have used a local CPA.
For the past three tax years, our income and expenses have required a bit more expertise than I can do. Both state and Federal long forms cost us only $200 last year. That included the schedules for itemized deductions and the Hope/Lifetime Learning credits and whatever other forms we needed.

Please seek out a local CPA firm to do your taxes. You can file electronically, just like H&R Block, and get your refund direct-deposited into your checking account within a week. If you have problems, your local CPA will be practicing all year long. I'm pretty sure the H&R Block in our community won't even open until January, and will likely shut down by May 1.

Support your local professionals!!

The online store may not have had the order in stock when they went to fulfill your purchase they DID however send the request to the card issuer for the funds, which were then put on hold until the Merchant clears the purchase. If the merchant did not request the funds the card issuer would never have known the amount. The Merchange is giving you the runaround. They could easily fax the information to the card issuer.

Hi olie. How is PFB these days?

This person used an HR Block credit card, I believe. We don't know who does their taxes, but it is possible it is HRB if they are carrying a card.
