Dollar Rent a Car Complaint - If you have a problem, Dollar won't care
LIHUE -- I rented a van on Kauai this summer, and agreed to invest in insurance of $81 in case anything happened to the car. Upon returning the car, I told the agent that one of the kids threw up in the car. He told me there would be a $50 cleaning fee. I was extremely happy that the $81 didn't cover it, but was late for a flight, so went to the window to pay for it. Upon giving me the receipt to sign, I was then told that it was $200. First I was told that it was that high because it was a set fee to an outside company; then upon pushing, that it was because they wouldn't be able to rent it for awhile (nevermind that I'd bet that the island was slow after we left.) Along with the $81 non-coverage, $50 upped to $200, and changing reasons for the cost - what amazes me, is that I sent a complaint to Dollar three times, and have never received a response. That alone is a reason to never rent from them again. If you don't succeed on service, particularly in a business where your product is a commodity, you will fail. Given their lack of response, I don't expect anything from Dollar. I can, however, respond by letting others know that they are better off going elsewhere. Avis and Hertz have always serviced me well. To those who read this - if you have a problem, know that Dollar won't care.
