T-Mobile Complaint - Buyer Beware - Unethical Business Practice
Summary: Added data services to my phone plan, but was billed for those services before I even added them.
Hello everyone, I felt it was necessary to share my experience with others in hopes that other unsuspecting customers do not get victimized by T-Mobile. On Dec. 11, 2010, I upgraded my phone and added a data plan over the phone. I was promised a $50.00 rebate on each phone but found out this was not true. During the process of attempting to cancel the services, I was surprised to find out that they already began billing me for these services after my last billing period which ended on Nov 27, 2010.
I asked the obvious question why I was being billed for services 15 days before I even added it. The first and second customer service reps Katria (Ref ID 1271488) and Natasha (Ref ID 1193556) had similar responses stating that this was done so that I could take advantage of the services as soon as I received the new phones. Natasha went even further to explain that I would only be unnecessarily billed about. 30 cents a day for each phone! As if I shouldn't be concerned that T-Mobile is trying to steal my money since it's such a small amount!
I believe it is unethical for T-Mobile to charge for services that were never provided. In my case, if I added data services on Dec, 10 2010, then I should be billed for data services beginning on Dec, 10 2010, rather than the day of my last billing period Nov 27, 2010. I urge anyone who has upgraded their phone and/or added services to their plan, to make sure that you are being properly billed. If you discover you are being billed improperly, I recommend calling T-Mobile to demand your money back. If you have had a similar experience, please reply so we may uncover if this problem is more widespread. I can't help but feel that T-Mobile basically tried to steal from me, and I hope others will not let it happen to them. I am no legal expert, but I also question whether this is an ILLEGAL business practice. For any business attorneys out there, please feel free to enlighten us.
I should mention that the last representative I spoke with, Lucas (Manager) (Ref ID 1193365), corrected my original problem satisfactorily by changing the beginning billing date of the data services to the day that I called. He also agreed with me that the way in which I was billed didn't seem right. He was also unable to find any indication in the Conditions and Terms of my contract that would explain why I was billed as such.
